70th Annual General Meeting
Looking to expand your investigative skills and network with professional colleagues from around the world?
Whether you speak English or Spanish, our 70th Annual AGM has something for everyone. Seminars will be conducted in both languages and there will be plenty of fantastic networking opportunities with some of the most experienced and knowledgeable investigators in the world.
Our host is a highly regarded figure in the field of private investigations. Born and raised in Wisconsin, his journey in investigation and intelligence began as an interrogator in the US Army, stationed in Panama. Brett played a crucial role in missions that led to the successful prosecution of Manuel Noriega.
After his military service, Brett founded B.M. Investigations, well known as a leading agency handling cases throughout Latin and South America. Brett is a Past President of the Council and currently serves as the Executive Regional Director. This is Brett's second time running an AGM. He hosted the Council's 63rd AGM held in Panama in 2017.
Our premier event, our Annual General Meeting, for the first time, will be held in South America, in the exciting mile high “La Ciudad de Todos” (The City of Everyone) Bogota, Colombia. Bogota is the capital and the third largest city in South America and the largest in Colombia. The city is the main political, economic, cultural, technological, and educational center of the country.
A cultural mecca, Bogota has worked hard to position itself as a leader in cultural offerings. As such, it has many exciting venues, including 58 museums, 62 art galleries, 150 libraries, 75 parks, and over 150 monuments. The Colombian National Museum and the Luis Angel Arango Library are both over 100 years old. In 2007, Bogota was named a World Book Capital by UNESCO, the first Latin America city to receive that honor.
Our hotel and meeting venue is in the upscale north side of Bogota, just a few kilometers from the Zona Rosa (Pink Zone) a neighborhood with many shopping clubs, restaurants, and cabarets.
The weather forecast for Bogota in September is excellent. Temperatures in September typically range from 46F to 67F or 10C to 20C.
A city at high altitude (8800 ft), Bogota keeps things cool all year round. There is little rain in Bogota in September. Travel sites recommend light and comfortable clothing during the day and a sweater or light jacket for the chilly evenings.
Colombian cuisine is as diverse as the country's many varied climates—from tropical coastlines and towering Andean peaks to dense Amazonian jungle—and its foods pull from all of these unique regions and culinary resources.
On a single trip, you can try seafood from both the Pacific and the Caribbean, warm and caloric dishes designed to sustain people living at high altitudes, and a wide variety of tropical fruits and other jungle ingredients. And then, of course, there’s the country’s famous coffee.

The highlight of our AGM is always the Gala Banquet, and this year will be no different. It will be held on the top floor of the Casa Dann, overlooking much of the north side of Bogota.
It will include the charity auction, a cocktail reception, sumptuous food, the announcing of the International Investigator of the Year, the swearing in of the new board members and President, and dancing to the wee hours.
Our Thursday tour culminates with a visit for dinner, drinks and a festive atmosphere that you must experience to believe.
This multi-story restaurant, bathed in neon, is renowned for its food, its drink and most of all its fun. It has been described as “an urban version of Paradise for citizens of the world who come in search of rumba, to converge in a single ritual of celebration, dance and ambrosia in the best Colombian style".
This iconic pilgrim destination and tourist spot is located at the top of Cerro de las Nievas, mountain over 3000 meters, overlooking the city of Bogota. The shrine and pristine chapel are the main reasons to take the cable car to the top, but there are also native souvenir shops, a restaurant, and other attractions. A delicious lunch at the restaurant is included.
Lake Guatavita is a small body of water in a forest-fringed crater, northeast of Bogotá in central Colombia. It was a sacred site to the Muisca people, who cast elaborate gold offerings into its depths, inspiring the legend of El Dorado and several ill-fated attempts to drain the lake. The area has trails and many birds. Nearby, the town of Guatavita has a craft center.
Thursday afternoon is time to relax and get to know the City of Bogota with friends and colleagues. In this historic district one will be able to wander the Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of the Colombian capital Bogotá.
This impressive plaza is flanked by impressive structures on all sides; North, the Palace of Justice; South, the Parliament Building; East, City Hall; and West, The Cathedral de Boliva. The plaza is also near the Botero Museum, Museo de Mar, the Bogota Museum of Modern Art, and also the world-famous Luis Angel Arango Library.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira (Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá) is an underground Catholic church built within the tunnels of a salt mine, 200 meters (660 ft) underground in a mountain near the city of Zipaquira. It is a popular site and place of pilgrimage.
The temple at the bottom has three sections, representing the birth, life, and death of Jesus. The icons, ornaments and architectural details are hand carved in the halite rock. Some marble sculptures are included. The cathedral is considered one of the most notable achievements of Colombian architecture, described as a "Jewel of Modern Architecture" The cathedral represents a valuable cultural, environmental and religious heritage for the Colombian people.
The nearby city of Zipaquira is recognized, not only for the cathedral, but for being near one of the oldest human settlements in the Americas.
