Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne is Australia's mecca for all things trendy and tasty. The city offers up exquisite dining, exhilarating sport and abundant opportunities to experience art.

A perfect blend of rich cultural history and new age trends is waiting for you in Melbourne. As the sun goes down, the city comes to life with a vibrant dining scene as well as events and exhibitions. Explore its bustling laneways, trendy neighbourhoods and sophisticated foodie scene to get a taste of what Melbourne is all about.

Weather

Melbourne enjoys warm summers, glorious springs, mild autumns and crisp winters. With its variable climate, Melbourne heats up December to February (summer), cools down March to May (autumn), chills out June to August (winter), and warms up again September to November (spring).

Melbourne's top temperatures are usually in January and February. Those months are often dry, with hot spells and cooling afternoon breezes off Port Phillip Bay. June and July are the coldest months and October is the wettest.

Culinary

Dining out in this foodie town is serious – and seriously fun. Melbourne prides itself on its food and the city's dizzying array of dining options is testimony to its culinary reputation. Book ahead for award-winning fine-dining restaurants, queue up for iconic cheap eats, explore famous eat streets or track down the city's best food trucks. Whatever you do, come to town with an appetite.

A table at Melbourne's most notable restaurants is a treat worth travelling for. Consider critically acclaimed Attica, Flower Drum or Vue de Monde. Grab a spot at the bar for award winning food at Embla, or one of the dining spots listed in The Age Good Food or Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide.

Conference Events

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Tour

With a capacity of 100,000 people, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the largest stadium in Australia, and the world's largest cricket stadium. Located about 1km (0.6mi) from Melbourne’s city centre, you’ll be going from bustling laneway to roaring grandstand in no time! In winter the ground hosts Australian football (also known as Aussie rules, or AFL) matches, while in summer it's the stage for cricket. Here are a few more ways to enjoy the ‘G’ (as locals like to call it).

Explore the inner sanctum of the MCG, walk on the hallowed arena and in the footsteps of where legends have walked, by taking a guided 75-minute MCG Tour. Immerse yourself in the history and world-class facilities of the MCG, as you go behind-the-scenes to gain an insight into Melbourne's sporting culture, while exploring one of the world's most iconic stadiums.

Charity Auction & Aussie BBQ

Enjoy a relaxing evening with an Aussie summer tradition of barefoot lawn bowls, with an Aussie BBQ and live acoustic duo.  Remember to bring an item for the Charity Auction; the charity will be the Australian Organ Donor Transplant Foundation.

Black Tie Gala Dinner

The Gala dinner will be held at the Showtime Events Centre. Originally known as docking shed 11 during Melbourne’s formative days in the 1800’s, this heritage venue has lived an exciting life. Situated along South Wharf Promenade, parallel to the Yarra River and gazing over the Melbourne city skyline.

The venue features a custom-designed chandelier bar which sits down the far end of the venue above the large stone bar top, original wide hardwood floorboards and wrought laser-cut iron walls are illuminated by coloured LED’s.

Make sure you pack your dancing shoes and warm up your vocals, as you will be entertained with live music provided by Melbourne‘s No 1 80’s cover band “Bridgetown”.

Bert Faulbaum Golf

Located on the Mornington Peninsula an hour and a half south of Melbourne, St Andrews Beach is Tom Doak’s first effort in Australia.

The front nine is a wonderful and engaging ride with a links design and feel while the back nine is there to test your merit. Like so many of the great courses in Australia, St Andrews Beach is highlighted by its short par fours and the risk/reward element that comes with it.

If you’ve come to Australia to see a kangaroo (or the smaller wallabies) then St Andrews Beach is quick to please you as they are commonly found bounding along the property with the early morning and evenings being the prime time for them to be out and about.
